Greta resort project awaiting council nod

Numerous sources in the tourism community say that the current project's construction stage is likely to be a major issue for the future of the country's main resort destination.

Talks between the TAFE board and the government on the proposed project has been ongoing since December 2015.

Earlier, two parties had submitted their proposals, the ruling BDP-Communist Alliance (CA) and the Communist Party (Marxist) People's Socialist Party of Korea (CPPK), to the Planning Committee in December 2015. The two sides submitted their original proposals in May 2016 to the commission overseeing the proposal.

They said then that the proposed TAFE-CPCK project should be a two-story residential development, which would occupy about 1,640 square metres, which they said would bring $20 million in economic activity for the island.

But the government recently indicated that the two sides could not get to agreement on the construction of the project, citing the political crisis which had shaken the project.

According to current plans, the resort would have two restaurants, two hotels, and two office complexes. According to the proposal, visitors from other countries would get a more detailed map of the area and access to various areas within the project, which would also be added to the site.

Despite the project's construction stage, which began in June 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in 2023, the TAFE also maintains that the project has nothing to do with the island nation, according to current and former sources who declined to be identified due to the current crisis surrounding the project.

Last week, in what can only be seen as a bid to ease the tension over the project, the government announced that it would grant two permits to the TAFE for the construction of the development project, and to the construction of a hotel of the development in the town of Gureong-si, 60 kilometers north-west of Busan, and a restaurant and retail development project in Gureong-ri (the town the TAFE had proposed to build in 2013).

A Ministry of Land and Infrastructure representative in Pyongyang was quoted earlier this month as saying the TAFE's development and development permit will be given to the development.

The administration is also now seeking permission for the construction of two other golf courses by the TAFE: one at Goguryeo, 25 kilometers to the north-east of Busan, and another at Dongdaebu, 50 kilometers south-west of Busan.

In the event, the project has failed to gain any momentum since the development of the proposed area near the proposed Hallyu Ferry Terminal had been postponed and it is now expected to be approved fo

Mokbel's brother gets extra year in jail

By: Mikey J

Friday evening, at a party held in his home at 2200 W. 3rd St., a 21-year-old woman was fatally stabbed.

According to the Detroit News, the suspect, Nour Al-Mokbel, 30, was taken into custody after a four-hour standoff.

During the time the standoff was underway, Al-Mokbel, of Mount Pleasant, Mich., and two other men were also involved in a dispute in which both were shot and killed. Al-Mokbel has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted homicide with a deadly weapon and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Detroit News.

Al-Mokbel was arrested Friday night.

Michigan State Police said Saturday afternoon that an autopsy performed Friday afternoon revealed Al-Mokbel died from multiple gunshot wounds to the back and torso.

Al-Mokbel, who lives in the Detroit area, is married with three children, a 9-year-old daughter and two 5-year-old boys. He is an experienced gunman and a convicted felon.

The state police press release says a domestic-violence investigation led authorities to the residence. As the investigation is ongoing, it isn't immediately known if additional charges will be announced.

Al-Mokbel and his brothers were not home when authorities got there. They went to his home shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, the Detroit News reported.

They arrived after word came the family was away on vacation for the weekend, and he asked to leave voluntarily, the Detroit News reported.

At one point during their stay, officials say they heard screaming and arguing.

"Al-Mokbel did tell an operator that he didn't care what they were going to do to their family. Al-Mokbel told the operator: 'They are going to kill me.'"

Family members told the Detroit News Al-Mokbel was married and the couple has three sons. He also has a younger daughter.

"If he had been a good Christian, that would not be the case. But he didn't," one source said.

Officials were trying to determine what triggered the attack after the shooter fled.

Al-Mokbel was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, a state police news release states.

"This tragic situation was quickly made worse by the fact that the victim was a valued member of our community," Michigan State Police General Counsel Stephen Lathrop said in a statement. "It is no longer possible to explain in this circumstance why an individual would intentionally take the lives of a love
