  The victim has been named by police as a 39-year-old from New Zealand and a 48-year-old from America.
  
  The victim, from Penrith in New South Wales, was one of three victims of an alleged attack on the train by two brothers who went by the aliases Peter and Andrew Liknes, a spokesman for NSW Police said.
  
  He said the women had claimed they were attacked while out at a wedding party on May 23.

  The alleged victims were identified as Sarah K. Jackson, 30, from Melbourne, and her 21-year-old daughter, Sydney, from Gold Coast, and her 45-year-old father, Sydney.
  
  The father and daughter were arrested in connection with their alleged attacks on the men, police said.
  
  Their identities have not been released at this time.

  Officers from Gold Coast, Penrith and Sydney and the NSW State Police are all assisting with inquiries into the case.
  
  Police and paramedics were called at 11am to Parkville Station after the incident and they arrived at the station around 8pm.

  "It is clear that there has been a serious and significant loss of a vulnerable person," the Metropolitan Police told AAP.

  "There is a significant risk to public safety that is present and a response will be undertaken at the earliest opportunity."
  
  He said "there was an attack in progress on this busy and busy line".
  
  The woman was taken to Parkville Hospital where she is "in a stable condition". The man was treated at the scene and taken to St Vincent's Hospital, police said.

  Victoria Police described the incident as a hate-related crime.
  
  "The incident in question has now been fully investigated by both Victoria Police and the State Crime Command in conjunction with other agencies," it said.
  
  "There are no reported suspects and no witnesses."
